My writing portfolio
Rachel Schneider ENG 477 Date 1/11/2021 Marsha Blackburn A Writing Portfolio I want to write my own fiction stories one day; I have had a book or two swimming around in my head so I will put the computer to good use and get that typed out one of these days. In this instance I chose my 5 stories and even though one is a marketing inquiry I had fun writing it, so here are my things and some background some of them. Resume: It is a basic one because my photo ones were not particularly good, and this is an honest resume besides the ones I made for class and I did fudge on those. Cover letter: I made up the cover letter though there is a penguin Books but it is always fun to use your imagination! Hike with Drew: I got the concept from a Writer’s Digest and entered it into a contes I never got a response but good practice. Short Story Vegas: Was one I did for another class but in here I changed it and the story was much better the second time. Marketing Flyer: This was fun to do those are stock photos of the dogs and squeaky toys, but I like Pit Bulls and dog toys are fun as well. Scott part 1-This is a story I am working on with another writer, warning its very sexy and some naughty words are in there as well. Writing Samples: I made these three samples up one day because as I have looked for writing work, I have seen people want a sample of your work, so I came up with these. Dear JENNIFER MCGREGOR,
1/21/2021 Jennifer McGregor Fiction Publisher 4587 Tropicana Rd. Las Vegas NV 89102 I have included my resume for the short story writer for young adult novels. It has been a few years, but I currently work in a middle school, so I do see all the angst and sass that goes with being a young teen. I do hope my writing samples can help me move to the top of the list. I look forward to working with Penguin Books and letting kids know being a teen is hard at first, but it does not last forever. Sincerely, Rachel Schneider Rachel Schneider 3867 Houghton Ave Riverside CA 92501 It had been a long cold winter Drew and I could not get out for a morning hike till today. Being 75 degrees, we did not have to wear many layers. He is an extremely sweet inquisitive boy who always asks a lot of questions. Why does moss grow on the north side of trees” he asks? Its times like this when it would be nice to have my husband here, but he is overseas where the work is. “well, it’s not just the north side it’s on the shadier side because that is where the moisture is.” On we went looking at snails on the ground watching the deer pass by along a ridge. Being quiet as to not startle them. “Mom he whispered it’s a bunny den they are coming out for food, he leaves a few carrot and lettuce scraps from last night’s dinner. I walked down the path and spotted some glorious Blue Jays and a Downey Woodpecker. “Listen Drew the woodpecker is getting the bugs out of the trees.” My sweet Drew was staring at the Bunnies, they are cute and fluffy after all. We followed our path down further after the bunnies went back to the den. The skies were getting cloudy, so I hoped the rain was not going to come back. Though the weather report said there was a chance. My little explorer with his school uniform on was undeterred, I wish I could wear shorts on a 75 day and not be cold, it is always nice to be young. Walking along our path we spot some squirrels running in circles around the tree. “Why do the chase each other like that” Drew asks. “Maybe it’s a game for them like ring around the Rosie.” On we trek to our favorite stream where the deer family are taking their drinks. I tell Drew we cannot skip stones right now we do not want to scare them. We look through the grass for more of his favorite bugs, saw some worms just below the dirt by a tree. Looking up we see a big spider web being made between two branches. The crows were making their calls in the distance. We are finally able to skip our stones in the stream. He gets some great skips going, and we collect some new rocks for our little garden back home. Walking past the stream we climb up the embankment and up along the ridge where we see a Fox off in the distance. He or she walks the opposite direction we are going so it is a relief we can continue to the clearing. Where there are more bugs, rocks, and Bunnies. We pass the Deer family as they run up the hill to were, they mostly frolic or maybe they live up there. We stop for a snack of Apples, Almonds, and some cheese sticks. When we were finished Drew put a couple of slices in his pocket to feed the Bunnies, I am sure. “Mommy we’re getting to the clearing now we can see the Bunnies and the last time Daddy, and I were here I got some neat rocks too.” Drew told ne enthusiastically, I did love his passion for nature, though again my husband is much better at the nature stuff. I am a pastry Chef ask me about desserts and I am your woman, about why moss grows on trees and hello Google. Since Dad is unavailable, I step in and let him explore and see the world outside of the house and off the screen. It is just another half mile and it is on to the clearing. He starts to pull me hand a little harder I know he is excited. We pass under the tree I glance up and see the Fox again. Then we stop and see “Daddy home…… Name: Rachel Schneider Course: ENG 361 Date: 4/14/2020 Instructor: Debbie Graves One Week In Las Vegas The countdown started Friday at 2pm I got the week off from this thing I call a job (just over broke). The car was packed, it was time to hit the road. The traffic was average and climbing the Cajon Pass was not that bad. I stopped in Baker to have my favorite meal at Bob’s Big Boy, the chili spaghetti, no onions. After making my way back on the highway the traffic picked up going out of Baker, through to Primm and Stateline. I had to stop for gas at Whiskey Pete’s, so I also went in and got some snack goodies. My favorite trail mix and some cheese potato chips because vending machines are too expensive. The road was beckoning so off I went, traveling through Jean is always nice, not much to see. A prison, a few remaining casinos, some outbuildings, and a truck stop. There slogan was always fun 40 smiles closer than Vegas. You can get bored so be sure to pack some music you can have your own car concert. “I’ll face it with a grin I’m never giving in, on with the show” (Show Must Go on by Queen) Finally, the Vegas skyline is in sight, the lights are not on yet, but they will be needing to navigate around the strip. I do say a few words the terrible drivers. This vacation was so needed my job is crazy, my kids are older now and do not need mom around anymore. Off they went to grandma’s house and I booked the week at the Delano, it is attached to the Mandalay bay so perfect access to all the fun of the strip, and just enough luxury to not look cheap. Getting the valet to take the car I check into my genuinely nice room I have a great view of the Luxor light (that comes off the top of the hotel) and the Excalibur. Now off to indulge in that genuinely nice bathtub and get some overdue reading done. My bathroom with a view has the Luxor light and that is the brightest light on the Vegas strip it comes right out of the top of the Pyramid shaped hotel. A brightness of 42.3 billion candela, you could read a paper from 10 miles straight up if you wanted to. Once I was well soaked and finished with my chapters it was time to find something to eat besides my snack foods. After cruising the room service options, I settled on some Mexican food of chorizo and eggs with nice corn tortillas. That hit the spot so with the extra energy it was time to get out for a stroll of the property. The indoor pool is nice but small and I want to soak up the sunshine and get some exercise so I shall hit the outdoor pool tomorrow. Back in the lobby I grab those ads for things to do in the city so I can plan out the rest of my trip. There are thousands of things to do in Vegas. Do not be disappointed if you do not get everything done, that is what the next trip is for. I have a beautiful week and I want to have a good time and not have to wait for anybody, I can do what I want. I got those and cruised up through the lobby and toward the casino on my way there I saw a sign for a food and wine festival. With that guy Zac from the travel channel. Thinking hmm I did not know he was interested in food or wine. I went down and found my favorite penny slot game Lucky cat. After 15 minutes I came out putting 20 in and winning 500, so I called it a night and went to the bar to catch a hockey game and grab a fun fruity drink (I like tequila sunrise, (Tequila, grenadine, and cranberry juice). As I am rooting for the Golden Knights (local Vegas hockey team) I looked over to my left and there was Zac from the travel channel, and he likes hockey too this is awesome, and I am trying not to be a fan girl. The game was in intermission and the Knights were winning so it was time for a new fruity drink so this time I turned around to get back to the bar and bumped right into Zac, boy was my face red. After some apologies and an offer to buy my next fruity drink (a Strawberry Daiquiri) it was a yes and I spilled that I was a fan. He told me he does have an interest in food and wine not just chasing ghosts with his crew. We had some great conversation and when the game came back on, we both sat in the booth cheering the golden knights to their victory. Now I am buzzed and standing up was going to be fun, but Zac was a true gentleman and helped me to my feet. He offered to buy me dinner. The Taco Hut was a good place the tortillas were fresh, and the company was so cool. The conversation turned to food, wine, travel, and some stuff about me. The midnight hour rolled around, and Zac had an early morning, so we said goodnight, but he was staying one floor above me, so we agreed to go to the diner in the lobby for breakfast or brunch. At 10am I was enjoying my company and this great stick to your ribs breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and some great watermelon) The food offerings in Vegas are so varied you can get everything from a hot dog and beer for 1.99 at the Orleans, to a 5-star meal at Caesar’s Palace the buffets are great too. Although sometimes you want a nice sit-down dinner. The conversation was effortless the attraction was deep. We made plans to see each other again after the food contest he was judging was over. Saying goodbye was a bit hard but the hand holding was sweet and made me feel like a schoolgirl again. After saying goodbye and I did watch him walk into the convention hall I went back to my room to plan out the rest of my day. I chose a tour of the Mob Museum, they say that Vegas was built with Mob money, but it was a Mormon founded town that later Hollywood discovered. Then many people in Hollywood who were well connected (such as East Coast mobsters) financed Bugsy Segal to build the Flamingo Hotel. As I was putting my shoes on, I got a knock on the room door and as I opened it, I got some flowers (pink roses) and an all-access pass to the food and wine festival courtesy of Zac. Let us just say the Mob Museum can wait for later I got to go to a food and wine festival and spend the rest of the week with Zac. “hi Zac thanks for the flowers it was sweet of you to remember.” He said, “It’s always right to remember a ladies flower preference because that’s the right thing to do.” Smiling the rest of the day I meet other travel channel celebrities and got to taste some great foods and many different wines. The food and wine offerings at the hotels and restaurants are varied, the Las Vegas area have become very international, so the varieties are endless. The week went by in a blur of food, wine, conversation, and some sweet dates. I never thought I would get over the break-up that happened the week before. Getting a private Vegas tour was something completely special. I did get to see the Mob Museum, Mandalay Bay Fine Art Museum, seven magic mountains, Pinball Hall of fame and a private dinner at the food and wine festival. My days in Vegas were down to one. We had reservations at Rivera right here at the Delano the view is amazing, the food is impressive with Italian and French offers. “I have had a wonderful time this week Zac thank you for mending my broken heart.” He looked at me for a minute and said, “it’s been a pleasure to get to know you and I would not mind visiting your hometown, you always have a reason to come back to Las Vegas. The next food and wine festival is around Christmas, this one will include chocolate.” Hitting the 15 early the next morning I have visions of Christmas, a pass to the food and wine festival, also a brand-new relationship to take back home with me. The End When writing a short story, you want to keep it from rambling and have enough details to keep it fresh. When your reader gets into the story you want them to feel like they are there with you, going to the food and wine festival, on that hike through the seven-mountains or touring the mob museum. The details are the thing to see and make sure to watch out for punctuation and common language. An average short story is within 6,00 words or 24 pages. If you wanted too you could go short-short story and that is between 500 and 2,00 words. That comes out to be 6 pages (Minot, Steven Ch. 7 pg. 41), talk about short stories. The story is all your length and style matter as much as how you want it to come into focus. Scott’s Story Part 1 I am Scott Thorn, and I am going back to WDU for the first time in 15 years, I went here for a year but after I came out as gay there really were no gay dudes. I am all men but yeah lesbians were all around some BI guys but no real gay dudes. I went back to the mainland and attended Preston University I majored in administration and minored in Literature. I did at one point in my life have a girlfriend and wanted to marry her, but I could not quash the gay lifestyle. That part of my life is over and now the old school offered me a counseling job, have not done this in a while. I get to help students toward there after college career. I sit here on this boat and keeping an eye on my 75 Triumph I have some nerves, but it is mostly about seeing this place again, so as the boat pulls up, I get my bike going and make a stop at my new on campus apartment. Its west facing because I like sunsets more than sunrise, so I did not know it needed so much work. I have some handy skills but a little at a time. The kitchen is decent and so is the bathroom. The floors will need some polish and the deck needs to be stained, this is a duplex, so I hope the neighbors are quiet. It is furnished and done nicely so I cannot complain too much, but back on the bike to see the Dean. I get my bike set with the kill switch and walk up the way to the Admin building, I am pretty much the only one dressed. I am wearing my good black jeans and my dress shirt, in my favorite color Maroon. I do remember this place was obsessed with sex so I will stick out wearing clothes, as I enter the building at least more admin people are dressed. Miss Grant the secretary shows me to my new office, its spacious much bigger that my last one at Preston where I shared a cubicle with another person. I have files from past students and current ones, so I started filing them when Dean Kane walks in, booty shorts and a tank top. “Welcome back to WDU Scott, we look forward to seeing you succeed you come very recommended.” I could hardly concentrate because this Dean was hung but I persevered and said, “Thank you sir I look forward to helping young students find there after WDU careers.” After he left, I had to get my rise to settle then I continued filing and looking through some files. Clarissa Love that was a name that got around even all the way to Preston. I think she does the Jax in the bedroom or something like that. I started looking around and thought I need some life in this office so I asked Miss Grant about decorating and she said I could do what I wanted but no painting, so I went to town and checked out a flea market. I found some pictures of the beaches of Canada, some old homes in the area and a few movie posters from Rocky horror Picture Show (it is my favorite). The flea market said they will deliver to the school tomorrow so I told them I will be there at 9am. Now with my day done I get to the store to buy some groceries and realize this place uses sextons and I was down to my last few, so now I will need to exchange but thankfully a bank is nearby so I can get some of my mainland money exchanged. I pull up to my new pad off load my few groceries and notice some other tenant left beer in the fridge, talk about luck. I got the beer went to the deck and watched the sunset over the sky. It was going to be new here, but I needed a fresh start after getting dumped and losing the job because my ex was in upper management, never will I do that again. I will find someone who does not work in the school system. After I ate a roast beef and cheddar sandwich for dinner, watched some cooking shows it was time for bed. As I was brushing my teeth, I heard the neighbors having sex. Oh, goody they are not quiet. hope they do not have super energy either. Tomorrow is my first full day and I have decorating to do, fantastic they stopped, that is the thing with us older people we do not fuck like bunnies anymore. As far as I know the neighbors are lesbians so who knows. Sample 1- If I try my hardest, I could muster up enough courage to ask the prettiest girl in school to prom. I had a suit; bolo tie and I will shine my old boots up. The thing is my courage is not as strong as my best friend Nick, now there is one brave dude who just asked the girl I wanted to go to prom with and of course she said yes. I gather myself close my locker and put on my best smile for them both. Nick and I high five and I hug her, trying to be genuine but it is hard. I head to my Social studies class and sit down next to Megan she looks at me with some concern I tell her what happened, she then asks me to Prom…... Sample 2-Wishing I did not have to be here I sit at the back of the funeral and think about my old high school principal. I grew up in a small town and everyone knew everyone, we only had one school and you went there for kindergarten through senior year. After my graduation I packed up my old car and headed out to what I thought was the real world. Living in a bigger city only helped spur my loneliness so who says you cannot come home again, well Mom for starters because I abandoned my family, I am not welcome at home ever again (so tired of her drama), so I am staying at Principal Mason’s house yes, the same principal that I am at a funeral for I held her hand as she lay there succumbing to cancer…… Sample 3-If you really want to get over a breakup getting back on the horse will help things along. I thought that too seven lousy dates ago so here I am on date number 8 and I am not seeing any birds singing or rainbows in the sky. He steps away to take a call he is a particularly important lawyer after all (I need to fix my picker) after he comes back, he says it go time the jury has come back so off he goes. I finish my drink and head back to my brownstone close by, I pass the new chocolate shop that just opened, and I get inside and see chocolate heaven. Looking around I do not see him at first but there he is my old college lab partner Sam I just saw a rainbow…….
Full Summary of Wade Keller's Huge Interview With AEW President Tony Khan
Tony says he feels "really, really great" and "well prepared" about their first episode.
Feels like they're getting amazing press. With the help of TNT/Warner Media, they've had advertising through podcasts, social media, Facebook ads, mainstream TV ads (NFL, HBO, "wrestling TV"), airports, movie theater trailers, etc.
Since watching the shows from gorilla, while also producing, is different from just watching the shows live, Tony makes sure to always watch the shows back (usually the next day), and plans to continue that for TV. Mentions that he watched Fight for the Fallen after he watched WWE Extreme Rules, and was "blown away by how much better our show was" and felt like that was one of AEW's weaker shows.
Says Double or Nothing is "the most commercially and critically successful wrestling pay-per-view" of the year. Cites doing over 110,000 buys at the price point they set, for their first ever show, while not having any TV to build it up. Happy with how well All Out did, despite the challenges of losing Jon Moxley to a MRSA infection 10 days before.
Top-5 issues he's had with their shows (in no particular order):
1. The Double or Nothing Casino Battle Royale started out flat, because they wanted to build towards a moment with MJF and Shawn Spears (that would factor into the future animosity between them), but the downside is that their first impression suffered because of it.
2. They could have (and were supposed to) handle the chairshot from Shawn Spears to Cody better, but it didn't go off as planned. Thankfully Cody was okay, and thought the Cody/Shawn Spears feud was fantastic.
3. The Hangman Page vs. Kip Sabian match should not have gone as long as it did. He regrets not having cut 5 minutes from it, plus it went 2 minutes longer than it was supposed to. Felt like it dragged, and didn't do anyone any favors (thinks it should have gone 12-13, not 17-19 minutes).
4. Losing Jon Moxley to MRSA, but think they handled that as well as they could. Really glad Jon's okay, and they're focused on Moxley vs Omega going forward.
5. Concedes that the Buy-In shows probably shouldn't have so much comedy when the main card is so serious.
As far as TV goes, you can still expect to see the arenas set up in a similar way, great wrestling matches, and a high production value. You probably won't see things like the Moxley vs Janela match.
Tonight's countdown special on TNT is designed to help introduce AEW to new viewers. They suspect that a lack of wrestling on Tuesday night (for the first time in a long time) will lead to viewers seeking out wrestling programming on TV.
While a lot of people will show up for a TV premiere, if you don't deliver then they might not show up for Week 2. He "wants Week 2 to be just as big of an event as Week 1, and Week 3 to be just as big as Week 1 and 2, and so forth." They're planning on "rolling out huge things every week."
Talks about the importance of Being the Elite - and how AEW wouldn't exist without it - despite it being a very different tone from AEW's shows. Says the "Road to" series will probably be more in-line with the tone they're going for for their shows. Says there's nothing wrong with having a sketch comedy show on YouTube, and a serious wrestling show on TV (which isn't to say that they'll never have comedic segments).
Doesn't want to insult people's intelligence. Against "invisible cameras" and doesn't want to rely on "DQ's," "ridiculous ref bumps," and "distraction roll-ups" too often.
His own personal wrestling influences are wide-ranging, dating as far back as the WWWF, and including Memphis, Mid-South, 90s New Japan and All Japan, and 2010s New Japan (references Kenny Omega, Prince Devitt, and Kota Ibushi). Says he shares common interests with Cody regarding Jim Crockett Promotions, WCW, and Mid-Atlantic; and common interests with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks with Japanese wrestling.
Even though "they all have different tastes in wrestling," they have a "similar mindset for what is good and what is bad." "90+% of the time" when one of them thinks they have a good idea, they all agree.
Hopes to grow the audience by putting on a great show, rather than trying to cater to specific demographics.
Designed to be more sports-based, but that doesn't mean they will lack drama (just like traditional sports aren't devoid of drama). Stories will stem from "wrestling in the ring," "personal issues," and "grudges" - with less focus on the "preposterous" and "ridiculous."
Wasn't surprised to see to see NXT go head-to-head with AEW on TV. Says that if AEW ran Tuesdays, he would have suspected NXT would move to that day (and says that arguably would have made more sense for NXT, since moving Smackdown to Fridays and potentially losing those Tuesday viewers).
While the shows will be wrestling-heavy, they will still have promos ("We have Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley: it would be insane not to let these guys talk") - "just not ridiculous, scripted promos."
Doesn't want to "over-produce" the commentary. While he has chimed in "a handful of times" for things to say - and while he regrets some things that have been said - he likes that it feels "real" and "organic."
Wants to have a show that's focused "in and around the ring" (compares to how the UFC is presented). Doesn't like so much focus on what's happening backstage.
Since the show is TV-14, they are being given more leeway and are being encouraged to be themselves and "be edgy."
In regards to WWE, they're not attempting to "counter-program" them or anything, but aren't above poking fun. They just don't want it to "become a habit" or "become a theme of the show." He was fine with Cody smashing the throne, because it came from his personal experiences. Says they're a "challenger brand," and while there isn't just one competitor, "there's one obvious competitor that we're always going to be compared to, for the foreseeable future." He doesn't think that's necessarily a bad thing, but actually a good thing - "especially after Monday."
Wants wrestlers to appear authentic. In regards to their characters, he doesn't want people to do things that they don't believe themselves. He's against writing dialogue for wrestlers, and thinks it can just result in them coming off as bad actors.
Says he's been "waiting for this moment for a really long time." In regards to the start date, he says that he's "known for a year and a half that this day is coming, and I could have told you that it was either going to be today or tomorrow." Cannot legally get into specifics, but says he has a "long-term," "multi-year" commitment with TNT.
In regards to wrestling being looked down upon by TNT in the past, he says that "absence makes the heart grow fonder." Says he was able to demonstrate factual numbers and patterns to say that "TNT had a big wrestling audience, and we can have one again. We're going to have one. We're going to have it tomorrow and we're going to have it a long time."
Committed to doing big, quarterly PPVs. Also interested in other big events (like the CEO-partnered Fyter Fest, and the charity fundraising Fight for the Fallen) that they can put out either through BRLive or streaming. Double or Nothing will always be held Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas. All Out will always be held Labor Day weekend in the Chicago area. Full Gear has a chance to be the big, winter quarterly show (didn't necessarily seem to be as committed to the idea of it staying in the Baltimore area).
Says the ITV deal was not supposed to be announced (sounds very annoyed with this situation). They had replays scheduled for Sunday/Monday, "but they're still working on getting the show on earlier." He fully expects "this week" that they'll be up before that. It was just announced prematurely before everything was fully hammered out. "Hopefully stay tuned and we'll have some good news soon."
In regards to planning out TV, especially further down the line: "It's going to be way harder than we thought. It's going to be really hard, I know it's going to be, but it's not going to be the first time I've tried to do something I haven't done before. I think we have good aptitudes for this. I think it's going to be a challenge, and I don't expect it to be easy at all - believe me - but I do think we're going to pull it off and I think it's going to go great."
Agrees that wrestlers work best when they're amplified versions of their own personalities, but that's not necessarily always going to be the case (cites Kenny Omega's recent character change as not really being true to who Kenny is as a person).
Says that overall he's a lot less nervous with AEW than he is with the Jaguars or Fulham, because a lot more things are under his control.
In regards to keeping kayfabe on social media, says that he doesn't necessarily think it's a big deal and he trusts his performers to handle it well. He has had to talk to people a couple times in regards to bad things they've said on social media, but generally that isn't an issue. Says that could change a bit once they're doing weekly TV. Wade Keller seems to be of the mindset that wrestlers should always be "on," but Tony doesn't necessarily seem to agree (he gives the example of the media scrums not being done in kayfabe, and it being fine because it's clearly separate from the PPV).
As far as being wrestler-friendly, they'll have a relatively light schedule (every Wednesday this year, other than Christmas, plus Full Gear on a Saturday). Not everyone on the roster is going to be on every show - by design to give people time off and breaks for a healthier work/life balance. If it's a "reasonable request," he will allow wrestlers to work independent dates outside of AEW. They also have a tuition-matching program for people looking to get an education (says that he believes WWE also offers that, but it would be very difficult to work that around WWE's schedule), and some wrestlers are able to have careers outside of wrestling, as well (such as Britt Baker's dentistry, who he would never want to force to be on the road for 5 days out of the week). Many wrestlers also work various in-office position with AEW.
Doesn't want to be a "control freak," and is very open to feedback and suggestions from wrestlers. They try to have producers and coaches that are very agreeable guys to work with (cites Jerry Lynn and Dean Malenko), and he would rather say "yes" than "no" to a wrestler's idea.
In regards to AEW forcing WWE to make a better on-air product, he says "that is already clearly happening." "Yes, I do expect they will have to make some changes to their shows to accommodate some things that we're doing, like, for example pyro, I don't think it's a coincidence that pyro came back." "When there's a competitive wrestling market it's better for the fans, it's definitely better for the wrestlers, and I think it's better for the companies, too, because the competition not only brings the best out of both companies, but the market it creates - let's face it, people are very excited with what's going on between AEW and WWE."
Wants to do with the women's division what WCW did with the cruiserweight division: notably with the joshi and how they interact with the western women.
Thinks his roster is as good as what any other brand has on TV in regards to in-ring skill and personality.
In regards to the recent RAW ending, "if people like that: great. It seemed like a lot of people didn't, but I'm sure there's some people that did, and I don't begrudge those people for liking it. Different people like different things in wrestling - everyone's entitled to their opinion." Goes on to say that he would never ban anyone from the arena for wearing a wrestling shirt from another promotion, and just thinks it's cool that you're wearing a wrestling shirt, period.
Defining success, he says that it's more subjective with AEW than his other sports teams. They've set benchmarks, internal targets, and network targets as goals. "I would like for this show to have a good audience and for this show to be on for many years. I would like to make the wrestling business a better place, as we've already done in 2019, I'd still like to be doing that in the future." "I would like for us to be a profitable company. I expect to make back everything I've invested and then some. When we're making profits it'll be that much sweeter."
No plans for house shows this year, and when they do start doing them it will not be every weekend. Never wants to be running 5-6 days a week. He'd "like to settle into doing somewhere between 85 and 125 dates a year... but again, every person doesn't need to be on every show, and I don't really see why anyone would be wrestling 100 times a year or more, for us."

My ex BF (24M) of six months cheated on me (25F) on Valentine's Day, while I was a foot away from him sleeping in our bed.
Hello, all. As the title says, my ex BF (let's call him 'John') cheated on me on Valentine's Day, well, more like later on in the night. We had a nice celebration for the day by eating sushi for lunch and sharing a few kisses. John was my first real relationship and my first boyfriend, so I'm still processing the betrayal and the shatter of my trust in him. After a somewhat tiring day at work I had went to bed a bit early (10 PM) and quickly fell asleep. A few hours later at around 1 AM on Saturday, I wake up and realize that John is not sleeping next to me as he should have; the lights are still on in the room and I look for my keys and they are not there. See, John does not own a car, I do. So, I panic for a bit (and this is the second time something like this has happened) and text him asking where John is currently at. John replies back saying, "I'm at the gym. I didn't want to wake you so I went by myself." John then asks if I wanted to come along with him to the gym but, I decline and tell him that I was worried where he was at. Well, I lay in bed worried and sick to my stomach, still, and this nagging feeling in my gut tells me that something is off about this (Yep...) and I do not go to bed until I hear my car alarm go off to lock it at around 3:30 AM. John comes home, I hear him go to the refrigerator and I hear him pop open a bottle of beer. Within a few minutes, John joins me in bed and this is where I start to ask him why it took him so long to be at the gym. John: I actually went to the casino after and chilled there for a bit and then, drove around town. Me: Oh, are you okay? Did you want to talk about something? John: I'm okay. Just...dealing with some issues. Me: (Long silence) I thought you were out with someone or something like that. John: (A few seconds pause) No, no, baby. I wasn't out with anyone, I promise. Well, we share some kisses and tell each other good night. At 5 AM, John's alarm clock goes off. See, John used to work a Monday through Saturday shift but since late January 2020, he has had his Saturdays off. I wake up due to the alarm and see that John hasn't been disturbed by it. So, I reach over and turn off his alarm. I decided to unlock his phone to change the alarm settings and lo and behold what do I find as I pull up his menu screen? (John has an android device.) Two apps: Hot or Not and Joyride. I laid there, frozen, as I wondered why he had these two apps on his phone. I do some digging on to his recent windows--he has a Chrome tab open to a red head's TextMe profile (I'm assuming, not familiar with it) and he has Google Maps open to an address that I will never forget. The image of the red head and the address are burned into the back of my mind and my body just tells me: RUN. So, I quickly dress, leave the apartment and take my keys and drive off to the nearest park and just sat in my car figuring out what to do. I return home an hour later, wake John up and we have our talk. John tells me that he went to someone's house in my car, drove 7.8 miles out, and went there to just talk to them. He said that they did some kissing and touching but no sex, as John said that even though they looked like a woman, they were a man. I couldn't believe it--I was truly blindsided. Let me let you all know this though: John and I never yelled at each other in our relationship but on that morning, I raised my voice and asked him to explain everything in detail. Long story short, John tells me that the reason why he cheated on me was because: a) Las Vegas is a city that is over-sexualized and being around in that environment triggered him and b) he said 'fuck it' after sitting there and conversing with the person whose house he drove to, in my car. So, essentially, John said to himself and to our six month relationship: "fuck it" as he got up from the chair after playing video games. John changed out of his shorts into pants, took my keys from the key holder, and took my car to go cheat on me with another person. I've asked him if he ever thought of me during the whole process and apparently, an image of me flashed across his mind as soon as he got to the house. Liar. He never thought of me. I had went to Seattle with him for his family's Christmas party, met his immediate family, and met his darling niece and nephew who are just both a wonder to behold. I had chosen a Jeep rental for us so that we could drive around Seattle without worrying about transportation. Sometimes, a couple of days before payday he would ask me for money to help him get some weed or groceries. I gladly forked it over because I knew he would pay me back. I've been there for him when he relapsed from his heroin addiction two months into our relationship. Let me tell you, I was very ill prepared and did not know he was a heroin addict until then. I took care of John when he immediately fell ill at work--I will never forget the look on his face as I brought him some tomato soup with toast and some juice to drink. I will never forget the times when John would sometimes tell me while we were showering together that "there are some things in my past that I've done". Or when I would always give him a back massage, he'd ask me: "Why are you so good to me?" And I would always reply, "Well, because I love you." And I'd kiss his back or neck after saying that. The following Tuesday, I moved back in with my mother and took all of my belongings with me before he got home from work. I broke up with John over text and looking back on it, that's what he deserved. I remember waking up on Sunday morning and I felt as if somethings about John's story still didn't add up correctly. I go through everything on his phone; from old messages and contacts (he blocked two individuals) and surprisingly, found that he searched for "Casual Sex" apps on the Google Play store. I had seen a couple more apps and downloaded them all again, logged in (luckily, John joined those apps by connecting his Facebook account to them), and was able to read every effort he put into all those dating/casual sex apps and all the messages he sent or was sent. Everything I found painted a different picture of the man I thought I knew. The really shitty thing? He chose two particular photos that I knew we had taken together and cropped me out of them; one from Zion and one from New Years Eve. And the person whose house he had drove to that Valentine's Day night to? I remember the conversation as if I read it yesterday. How Jon was looking to have sex with someone to celebrate the day, and knew that even though the person was a transgender female, said: "Is it okay if I've only been with women before?" and after some more conversation and sharing of pictures, the person sent their address and along John went. I've gone No Contact with John since this Monday, March 23rd. I've also been seeing a psychologist to get through the trauma. Unfortunately, I messed up by still meeting up with him before he went back to Seattle to be with his family. How days after I broke up with him, he went to a party and had sex with one his friend's friend. John quickly moved on and like a fool, I still thought I could salvage something of our short-lived relationship because I still had some shade of the rose-tinted glasses still on. The one thing that he asked of me is if we could still be friends and it shattered me. How could he ask that of me, thinking that we could gloss over the fact that he emotionally and physically cheated on me? And on one of those days I fucked up by hanging out with him, he said the following: "I don't want to go through all that work again of meeting someone new and getting to know them. I already did all that work with you. Please, let me take you out on Wednesday or Thursday, if you're free." I have it written down and labeled as "headass" in my Google Notes app to remind myself that if I continue to play into John's hands after NC, I'm the fool. The day I told John that I wanted to go No Contact with him, I had told him that I did not want to be someone's second choice. I still remember the silence after I said that. How I asked him where did I go wrong? And how John replied, "You did nothing wrong, (my name)." John even said later on that he wanted to settle down with me and have children with me, ha! I told John however, that he was the one that broke my trust in him and how could he ever work to fix my trust in him again? So, I ended the call, sobbing, saying "I'm sorry, I love you, take care," and that was that. Thank you for taking the time to read through all of that. It's been a tough few days since NC and to be honest, I wake up every morning saying in my head or out loudly, "Fuck you, John." I'm graduating in two months, I'm on my own path to healing and recovery from all the baggage you have that I carried by trying to fix you and, the trauma you've caused. I am lucky to have my family and friends to be there for me when I need them. It sucks considering recent events going on but, I can't wait to go back to the gym, go apply for better jobs, and maybe, join the Peace Corps or Ameri Corps. Good luck, John. But also, good riddance. And to this day, I agree with my uncle that the alarm clock going off at 5 AM was truly a 'divine intervention'. I hope you take some time to reflect on yourself but to be fair, I need to truly look inward and work on myself, as well.
Naima She was going to buy diapers. They were having a sale at Kroger and she was woefully unprepared for how expensive they were, how expensive everything to do with babies was. Mary had her first, and as of now, only child just six months ago. It might as well have been six years at this point. The rumors were true, any hope of sleep was abandoned long ago. Maurice did what he could to help out, he loved feeding their little girl and didn’t mind when she spontaneously vomited on his shirt, or if he did he never showed it. They named the girl Naima, after Maurice’s grandmaw who passed away the day her namesake came into the world. Naima made it to her grandmaw’s funeral where she screamed and cried every second of the service. Mary however was absent. Everyone understood. Her labor wasn’t easy, a grueling sixteen hours of push and breathe, sweat running down her arms and legs in rivulets. They all agreed that a funeral was no place for a woman to be after giving birth just four days ago. But at Easter, Mary was certain they all looked at her a bit different now, like she had failed an important exam and her commitment to the family was thrown into question. The parking lot was nearly deserted, it being almost 10 o'clock at night. She had meant to go earlier in the day, had even set an alarm on her phone to remind herself, but Naima was sick. Mary thought she was sick. She was mostly sure she was sick. She hadn’t eaten anything that day except for a few brown lumps of applesauce that later came out the other end virtually the same. Mary wasn’t scared yet but the anxiety, the vision of rushing to her family doctor only to be told once again that “this is normal Mrs. Hader, happens all the time, she just needs a bit of rest,” was ever present on her mind. She hated that place, hated the smell of it. When she herself was a little girl the atmospheres of hospitals, clinics, dentist offices, all revolted her. The snarky look of the woman behind the counter, watching another new mother panic over a little diarrhea, it was all a bit too much to bear. She tossed an Ativan quickly into her mouth and locked the car door. She checked her phone. No texts from Maurice. He would be working late tonight, they’d been giving him the night shift at the hospital for months now. Even when he got off early he would head to the gun range to “get his aim ready for the apocalypse.” The baby was taking a strain on him. He held up well, remarkably well, better than she had. Naima was the love of her life, as well as the bottomless well where she tossed in every waking hour of her day. Sure she could maybe leave her alone here and there, she was six months after all, but she knew that within ten minutes the screaming and crying would start and there’d she be, holding the squirming mass to her breast. She squinted at the glaring white lights of the store and swung her grocery bag from side to side, not thinking about where she was going as she walked towards the Personal Care aisle. She passed colorful packages of tissues, toothpaste, and tampons, and studied the boxes of diapers, selecting what she gathered was the medium tier. Down the aisle there was a young man looking at conditioner. He was rubbing his mouth and kept looking back and forth from his phone to the bottles. “Having trouble?” she said “I guess so. I’m supposed to get something with coconut oil, but there’s like five of them with that.” “Do what I do.” “What’s that?” She picked up a nondescript bottle and put it in his hands. “Get the cheapest,” she said. He laughed a little at this, “I like the way you think. Who are those for?” he said, pointing to the box in her hand. “Naima- or uh, my daughter.” “Bit late to be running out for that.” She didn’t quite like that, but he gave her a quick sympathetic smile that she returned. “Yeah I was going to earlier but you know how it is,” she started walking back down the aisle. “I can help you,” the man said, his voice even. She stopped and turned back to him. He was still looking at her nicely enough, his eyes almost seemed to be scanning her. “Excuse me, I have to go.” She turned and started walking back again. Suddenly much more aware of how empty the store was at this time. She didn’t hear him follow, just the sound of her own flip flops hitting the floor a bit faster than normal. She cast a glance over at the two employees by the service kiosk who were chatting away, hardly even noticing her. She wanted to be through self check out and back in her car as quickly as possible. Would she tell Maurice about it? No, probably not. He’d get worried, and he already had so much to deal with. The self checkout machine blared out to her in its automated voice, asking if she had a membership card. She cursed it silently and quickly scanned the box of diapers, leaving well before the receipt was curling out of the slot. In the black reflection of the plate glass windows of the store she saw the man calmly scanning the bottle of conditioner. Her heart beat a little louder in her ears, she hadn’t even heard him walking up. She kept her eyes fixed on his reflection as she walked out the sliding doors. The night air was humid and hung still. Across the parking lot a car sat by a stop sign, its red brake lights casting a faint glow on her face. Her little Hyundai was parked thirty yards away. She put her phone up to her ear and pretended to be talking to someone, a trick she had learned in college. This soothed her anxiety a bit, not as much as the Atavil would when she got back into her car, but enough for now. She crossed the lane in front of the store and her footsteps echoed across the empty lot. Twenty yards away. Behind her she heard the sliding door open again, and she began to walk a little faster. Fifteen yards now. She thought she heard someone behind her but she couldn’t be sure, she was too afraid to look. At ten yards her heart was racing in her chest, it was hard to hear anything else. She took out her keys, gripping them tightly in her hands, trying to calm herself down. Her legs felt rubbery and weak, her eyes were hot. She made herself turn. He was standing ten feet away, silhouetted by the dim yellow street light just above and behind him. He looked bigger, much bigger than he did in the store, and he wasn’t moving. Her mind tried to project a face, an identity onto the dark human cut-out before her. She could feel his eyes staring back at her, all over her. He moved towards her. She was yanking at the handle of the driver side door. She didn’t remember moving to get there. The handle pulled but with no click of the opening latch, she forgot to unlock the car. A quiet moan escaped her as she looked up into the reflection of the window and saw that dark figure raise its hand to the back of her head and with sudden force, thrust her head against the side of the door frame. The first thing she noticed was that she was on her back. There was something covering her eyes, it felt soft but was wrapped tight around her head which made the aching pain in her forehead protest even louder. Worse than the pain was the smell. Wherever she was the air smelled cold and closed in, damp, stale. It smelled like overripe cucumbers. She could feel something crawling up her calf and tried to shake it off but her legs were bound tight to what felt like a cold metal table. She went to move her hand to brush it off but her arms were trapped just as her legs, with straps like the ones they used to restrain mentally ill patients. Naima. The word flashed in her head like a big red neon sign outside a Las Vegas casino. The baby, my baby, she’s all alone. God I only left her for ten minutes. Hot tears wet the cloth over her eyes and ran down the side of her face. She thought about screaming but she was too upset, too scared, too confused to do so. Instead she started hyperventilating. She could hear herself gasping, the pressure building up inside here like a crescendo of panic and fear. Her mind flashed to the prescription bottle of Ativan in her car. God, where was her car? Where was she? What was crawling up her leg? “You need to relax,” a voice said, and this time she did scream. “Where’s my baby?!” “Wherever you left- it?” “Oh Jesus, what are you doing? Let me go, please let me go let me go let me go let me-” “It was easy to get you here,” said the voice that she could hear slowly orbiting around her. “Dark parking lot in the middle of the night. You should know better. You weren’t even carrying pepper spray, I know, I checked your bag.” Mary strained against the straps, against the pain in her head, and against the creeping thing that was now marching slowly up her thigh. She began to sob. “Your head must be killing you,” said the voice in a quiet, comforting way. “I’m sorry I had to do… what I did. I was scared you would get away.” “Why are you doing this,” Mary said in between sobs, almost screaming. “What the fuck do you want!?” “You. I want you.” The voice was quiet for a time. The crawling thing was onto her canvas shorts now but she didn’t notice. “I think you’re beautiful, so beautiful, almost perfect. I want to help you become... immaculate. You’re so close. I don’t want you to worry about your head, you’ll never see a scar, I’m good at what I do. You’ll never see.” Before she could respond her phone erupted somewhere distant in the room. It must have been sitting on a table because she could hear a loud buzzing sound. The voice growled in rage and rushed away, a moment later she heard a loud crack that must have been her phone flung shattering against the floor. Her mind tried to gauge how long she had been down here. She could feel the dried blood pulling on the skin of her forehead, maybe a couple hours at the most. Maurice would be home soon, he could take care of the baby, Naima must be screaming loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear. Somewhere in the back of her head she thought she could hear her infant child wailing in the distance. Almost as if he read her mind, the man said: “Please don’t try to scream. No one can hear you down here, it’s just you and I now. But you won’t be down here long. I won’t leave you down here with all these nasty little things.” She heard a quiet crushing sound, like stepping on a pine cone, and the cucumber smell increased. She was much more aware of the creeping crawling sensation that by now was exploring her exposed midriff. Suddenly his hands were on her, one of them resting gently on her thigh, the other plucking up what was just over her navel. In the darkness under her blindfold she could feel the air being displaced as his hand moved it towards her mouth. “Kiss?” And she could feel its antennae frantically probing her lips, its spindly legs scratching them, it released it’s pheromones and the stench made her gag, making a gurgling sound that contrasted sickeningly with the tittering laughter of the man still holding the bug to her face. She would scream but she was afraid if she opened her mouth he would drop it in. The smell was everywhere, in her mouth, in her nose, in her brain. She didn’t sense his hand pull away. She had concentrated every ounce of her being into not throwing up and only distantly heard the sound of the man crushing the insect between his fingers. Then he was back, squeezing her jaw with more force than she thought he possessed and said quietly: “I will help you.” He took off the blindfold. The light that shown in her eyes was blinding but in time she was able to focus on the large mechanical arm, like the ones dentists used, that beamed light down into her face. She gagged again when she saw three stink bugs crawling lazily across its surface, had they been crawling all along her when she was unconscious? She peered around the room. Everything else was bathed in darkness, the vague outline of a shelf, a washing machine, and what looked like a set of ancient narrow stairs leading up out of the basement. To her right she heard the clinking silverware sound and she could see the man hunched over a long metal table. “I’m sorry for the delay, I just want to make sure everything is done correctly. Co-rrect-ly. You’ll be happy to know I use anaesthetic now. It’s much quieter, easier for both of us.” “Wh-what?” “I am going to fix you. Make you what you’re meant to be. I want you to understand I do this all out of love, out of love for your beauty, for what you will become.” He turned around and her eyes grew wide and white with terror at the syringe in his hand. At this she finally screamed, screamed as loud as she could, louder than Naima screamed when she woke her up at 5 AM that morning, standing in her crib and howling. Mary’s arms and legs writhed against the straps and for a split second she thought she felt a give until he slapped her hard across the face. In stunned silence the tears fell freely down her cheeks, she was whimpering. The syringe needle entered just under her left cheekbone. “Local aesthetic, I’d put you under if I thought I could bring you back out.” She strained at the leather strap across her forehead, the back of her head now aching against the cold metal table top. Soon though she could feel her face going numb, a bitter taste in her mouth seemed to flow from there and then down throughout her body, into her arms and legs which laid like lead against her sides. She couldn’t tell if she even had a body anymore, she could feel nothing, not even her own breathing. The man placed the syringe back on the table and in its place appeared a small scalpel. In her mind she was leaping off the table and up those rickety stairs, out of the black nothingness, but still she lay motionless. Near the spot where he injected the paralyzing liquid, the man made what must have been a small circular cut. She could feel a vague pressure on her cheek. She remembered being nineteen, the summer before her sophomore year at WSU, getting her wisdom teeth taken out, the sound of metal scraping against bone, ripping flesh. She could see his fingers maneuvering little metal instruments like chopsticks, covered in crimson blood. He wasn’t wearing gloves. After what could have been an hour or five minutes, the pressure moved from her left cheek to the right, then the center of her face. Soon she wasn’t able to breathe out of her nose, she could feel something oozing into the back of her throat and tried to cough but couldn’t. In some far away corner of her mind she prayed that her gag reflex wouldn’t kick in, fearing she would choke and die on this table. The man yanked hard on her nose, the pressure mounting until with a pop he fell back, holding a white sliver of bone in his hand. More blood oozed down her throat. With equal force he pressed something down hard on her face, whatever was left of it at least, so hard that she could see stars forming in her vision. When he released she could not breathe through her nose at all, stopped up tighter than the worst cold of her life. Apparently satisfied with his work he gave a small chuckle and plugged something into a wall socket behind her head, then she heard the buzzing whine of an electric razor. She heard him unstrap the leather bindings across her forehead and cradled her head in his hand and began to shave her hair off. Stray strands fell into her eyes and she tried to blink them away. The numbing effect was less potent near the back of her head and she could feel the razor travelling across her scalp. A rustling sound and she felt him placing something on her shaved head, a wig. It fit tight, pulling the skin above her eyebrows taut and making it nearly impossible to close her eyes. Letting her head fall back down loudly on the metal table, he restrapped the leather bindings and pried her mouth open, fitting in a metal wire brace to hold it in place. Somewhere in the numb unconscious of her mind her gag reflex finally won her over. With a sickening gurgle she vomited, but it became stuck in her throat and quickly the air was completely cut off. Alarms screamed inside her head but she still could not move, her eyes darted around their sockets. The man, whose face she still couldn’t make out due to the bright light directly above his head, only stared back at her silently. He yanked the wire brace out of her mouth, taking a few teeth with it, and then he kicked the table over on its side. The dark room lurched before her eyes as she slammed into the concrete floor, the heavy metal table bearing down on her from above. She vomited again but could now feel air roaring back into her burning lungs. Rasps escaped her and just as violently as she was flung down the man heaved the table back up into place and secured the straps. The feeling was beginning to return into her legs, she felt a wetness around her crotch. “You’ll learn to keep it down now won’t you? God you stink, not much left to do.” He opened her mouth, put the brace back in, and soon she felt immense pressure on her top gums, a yank, and a sound like a wine cork being pulled. He held up one of her incisors, gripped by his pliers, in front of her eyes. Tossing it aside, he fit the pliers around her other incisor, the pressure came, and then suddenly a hideous cracking, like a branch being snapped. Her tooth had shattered. “Don’t worry I have new ones for you. Not too big, bright and shiny.” Her fingertips were coming to life then, she could feel the cold air of the basement again and with horror she began to imagine the pain that would engulf her entire mind when the aesthetic wore off. The pain would blot out the world, would blot out the terror, would even blot out Naima. She wished for death. “Darren, son you need to go to bed it’s late.” The black figure snapped into attention like a deer in the headlights at the sound of feeble voice calling from far away, somewhere above their heads. “I’ll be up soon momma, you just go on to bed now.” His voice when he had spoken to her sounded frantic, monotone, inhuman. Now when he replied to that voice from above he affected a submissive whine. Sensation was reentering her body faster and faster by now. She could feel the raw skin of her wrists where she had pulled against the straps, and then her arms. She had to escape before the pain hit and blinded every sensibility. The black figure named Darren was back at his instrument table muttering soft curses to his mother who by now must have shuffled back into whatever stale bedroom she came from. Without really planning it, the thought entered her head. She began rocking back and forth on the table. The leather straps creaked a bit and the loose bolts holding the legs to the table squeaked but not enough for Darren to notice. She rocked harder and harder, urging against the leg straps that were looser than they should have been, he had neglected to secure them after knocking her over before. The table groaned as two of its legs were now leaving the ground at a time. Darren whipped around, the light finally catching his face. He was handsome, young, but that disarming grin he gave her in the supermarket was replaced by the bared teeth and all-white eyes of a man enraged. He lept up to catch her but the table fell again. The strap holding her head down snapped and her forehead hit the concrete with a hollow sounding thud. The room went black before her eyes. Vaguely she felt her body dry heaving. The numbness was gone but the pain was distant, she was detached now from her body. Hovering in the air of the basement she saw her torso half laying out of the leather restraints of the table, her body violently spasming. Darren was pacing frantically beside her bleeding head, the area just above her left eye a red mass of flesh and blood already pasting strands of the bad blonde wig to her forehead. His nerve broke. “Oh fuckfuckfuck I’m sorry. I wanted to help you, I did, I promise I wanted to make you better, I-. I’m going to let you go, but you can’t tell anyone, you can’t. You don’t know me.” Inarticulate groans came out of her mouth, her tongue lazily exploring the gap where her two front teeth had been. He knelt down beside her and began undoing the straps, her eyes focused on a stink bug crawling slowly through the puddle of blood that her head had left. Red on green. The bug became two, then four, and then her vision fractalled out of existence. When it returned she woke up on the cold dewey grass of a front lawn. She could hear automatic sprinklers chirping off somewhere distant. Her head was a mountain of pain, every pulse of her heart beat like a drum that throbbed and pushed even more agony than she thought could exist into consciousness. She pulled herself into a ball, groaning with each tiny muscle movement. She could not move her face, it felt like a mask. Her eyes burned and her vision was foggy, she peered out through blades of finely cut grass to a small one story house. Her house. Naima. In an instant pain was replaced by a bottomless fear for her baby. She was on her feet. A distant place in her brain informed her that her left leg had been broken somewhere below her knee, and there was a crunching grinding sound as she walked. The motion sensing lights went on and cast a crooked shadow behind her. Her sticky hands felt behind her and by some miracle produced her house keys. She fumbled with the lock, it was hard as her vision kept blurring in and out of focus. Her head, God her head was killing her. She slid through the door and headed down past the kitchen to Naima’s room. Maurice got off early that night and he was driving home. His floor had been quiet, just watchinng the clock spin. He wanted to go to the range but he hadn’t really seen Mary in three days. She worked hard for that child, every day of maternity leave from the school was spent in dedication to their little Naima. So he decided to surprise her, turn the engine off and coast into the driveway in neutral like he had done when they were in highschool while sneaking out. About a block away he flicked away a half smoked cigarette out the window. He promised her and himself that he’d quit soon. Lung cancer got his grandmother. He’d do it for Naima. But with these back to back shifts at the hospital, a man needed something to take the edge off, and when he couldn’t go to the shooting range a camel or two would do the trick. The car rolled silently into the driveway. He got out and walked to the door, not noticing the droplets of blood on the grass or the red bricks of their walkway. He’d get into bed with her, pull her close to him, and if the baby was quiet, they’d sleep the whole night through for the first time in months. Then he caught sight of the bloody smudges around the lock and his heart stopped, it froze then and there in time. He saw his eyes in the reflection of the glass door, they were recessed now, drawn back into his face and alert. He moved to his car, never looking away from the house. Opening the passenger door as quietly as he could he felt under the seat for his .38, the one his dad got him for Christmas that year. He was back at the front door. He held the gun tightly in his right hand and pushed on the doorknob, feeling it give, it was unlocked. His breath came slow, he could feel streams of sweat pouring cold down from his armpits. He stared into the darkness of the living room. Framed family pictures, not even as old as Naima, stared at him in amazement, at the man in scrubs carrying a gun. It was still and quiet save for his hissing breath, until he heard the baby begin to scream. His legs lost their strength and his whole body, an impressive 190 pounds of bulk and muscle began to shake. As quietly and as quickly as he could he moved down the carpeted hall to Naima’s room. The light was on, he could see a tall shadow swaying across the bedroom wall, the smiling faces of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet juxtaposed against his own, covered in beads of sweat. He entered the doorway, the gun held firmly with both hands, hammer cocked back and finger on the trigger. His eyes were wide open. Over by Naima’s crib there was a woman. She was bent over, peering down at his infant daughter who was screaming louder than he had ever heard. Blonde hair hung limp from her head, and he could see blood seeping out of her scalp and falling into the crib. The woman’s body was shaking in waves, as if she were crying, or laughing. He heard his voice yell to get away and she lifted her head up to see him. Her eyes were wide open in a look of shock, they were bloodshot and he thought he could see a grey film of dust over them. Her eyebrows arched grotesquely high and far to the sides of her face, a face that was red and puffy. Her nose was impossibly thin and crooked on her face. Both her lips were pulled back in a hideous oval around the few teeth she had, they were bloodstained, a large gap right front and center. He was sure of nothing in that moment other than that he was staring straight at a monster. He aimed, held his breath, and pulled the trigger. Dead center, her forehead exploded in red. Her body jumped a little and then slid over onto the crib, for a moment he was worried it would collapse under the weight but she slumped off of it and onto the carpeted floor, her filmy eyes staring up at the ceiling that he and Mary had pasted glow in the dark stars to the summer before. He ran over to the crib and picked up Naima whose little blue singlet was speckled in blood and viscera. She was no longer crying, but Maurice was. He cradled his daughter, trying to keep her face away from that dead woman on the floor. He called out for Mary and collapsed to the floor of the hallway, holding Naima in his arms, until the police came. They got him out of the house fast and took him in for questioning, he couldn’t understand why. They weren’t telling him anything, they wouldn’t let Mary see him. They even brought in a public attorney who just looked at him in sad confusion. He was sitting on a metal chair in an interrogation room, just like the ones he saw all the time on TV. He looked at the wall-length mirror and wondered who was behind it. A deputy came in and sat down across from him, he looked uncomfortable, wouldn’t make eye contact. He held up a manilla folder and slid it across the table to Maurice. Looking down at his hands the deputy spoke. “Uh, sir, we’re having trouble identifying the victim, and we-” “What do you mean victim? Victim my ass, that.. thing, that thing was in my house. I was protecting my daughter.” “Yes sir, we understand it’s just, can you look at these photos please.” “I want to know where my daughter is being kept first, I want to know where Mary is.” The deputy rubbed his eyes. It was late, probably close to 4:30 in the morning. “Your daughter, Mr. Hader, is with social services right now. We’ve contacted your wife’s mother who should be there to pick her up soon.” “And Mary?” “We’re looking for your wife now.” Maurice let out a long moan that filled the interrogation room. He still had blood on his scrubs and his shoes. The deputy pushed the file towards him and sat back in his chair, eyes locked on his hands. Maurice opened the first page which held photographs taken in his little girl’s room. He had to look away and shut his eyes tight so he wouldn’t scream. Most of the woman’s head was gone above the nose. Blood and brains were covering the flower print carpet in Naima’s room. He quickly flipped the photo over. The next shot was of the woman’s torso, one arm crossed over a shirt so caked in blood you couldn’t read what was on the design. He almost flipped that photo over too, until he recognized the ring on his wife’s finger.
[NA] Completely updated the CinemaScore discussion!
What is CinemaScore and how are the ratings determined? It is a Las Vegas research firm that surveys audiences from different cities about their viewing experience off of a paper given by CinemaScore employees themselves. There are 25 cities all across the North American region where these surveys are handed out, but only 5 are chosen to actually implement their data from each week for each new wide release. For this set of data, I have compiled 3,177 films that have attained a CinemaScore. I will go through each score and determine the best and worst performances of a film that has received that score. Let's begin.
A+
The almighty score that is worn as a badge of honor. A relatively difficult score to achieve as we look at 69 films since its lifetime. Of every film that has reached this score, 40/69, or 57.9% have reached $100 million domestic with 62/69, or 89.85% having multipliers higher than 3x. The average multiplier stands at a 6.27. Here's a chart of the best multipliers.

Bottom line, if your film gets this score without that Christmas release date, you're absolutely fucked. Check out my initial post!
are casinos open on christmas day in las vegas video
Yes yes yes.....Vegas is open 24/7 365 days a year. All casinos are open and most of the shops in their hotel. See a cirque show - there are six but the best are Mystere and Love. Or see Phantom of the Opera OR Jersey Boys. Tale a corner a day and just wander and look and enjoy. The three main corners Christmas Day Menu at Boulder Station’s Broiler Room, Palace Station’s Charcoal Room, Santa Fe’s Charcoal Room, and Sunset Station’s Charcoal Room. The expert chefs at Station Casinos offer the following menus across four steakhouses in Las Vegas from 2-10 p.m. at each location. All items served a la carte. Courtesy, Circa Las Vegas.
